The UNESCO International Convention against Doping in Sport, adopted in 2005 and in force since 2007, serves as the primary international legal framework supporting the global fight against doping in sport. With 191 State Parties, it is one of UNESCO’s most widely ratified treaties and reflects the international community’s commitment to protecting the integrity, fairness, and ethical values of sport.
The Convention promotes the harmonization of anti-doping policies, laws, and regulations among governments, helping to ensure a level playing field for athletes worldwide. It also strengthens the implementation of the World Anti-Doping Code by providing governments with a legal basis to support anti-doping efforts and address areas beyond the scope of sports organizations.
